Abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) and its recovery process

Abdominoplasty is a cosmetic surgery procedure, often referred to as a tummy tuck. If you're considering this procedure, here are some tips to help you know how to prepare for a tummy tuck, and what to expect during the recovery period. Since hyaluronic acid is an FDA approved substance, its use is totally safe and harmless.

A Firmer and Flatter Belly

Many people strive to achieve a flat abdomen, but it can be difficult for many people to achieve with just a combination of diet and exercise. Even people who are not overweight can develop a loose, sagging belly which does not respond to those traditional methods. Some common reasons for this include aging, weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and genetic factors.

Getting ready

To prepare yourself for the surgery, take note of these tips:
  • Avoid taking aspirin or any anti-inflammatory drugs before surgery as they can increase bleeding
  • You need to stop smoking well in advance of surgery as smoking slows downpost-operative recovery
  • You must be physically fit and mentally prepared for the tummy tuck surgery
  • Clean your skin by using an antiseptic soap the day before the surgery

Convalescence

Recovery time can range from one week until a few months. Normally, a patient can return to work after ten days if these tips are applied:
  • Apply cold compress on treated areas.
  • Avoid straining yourself and follow a soft diet during the first week.
  • Dressing can be removed after one or two days, you may also take a shower afterwards.
  • Don’t remove the sutures until after a week from surgery.
  • You can do a regular exercise after three or four weeks from surgery
  • Follow your surgeon's instructions when taking medications

This procedure will remove extra skin and fat from around the abdominal region, and you can have a flat stomach again. Stretch marks from previous pregnancies can also be eliminated in the process.
